Each notification should have a goal — and often that is a user taking a certain action. Actions could be updating an expired credit card, confirming an invitation, and more.
When a user is required to leave the notification and visit another page to fulfill the action, there's a big dropoff in conversion. Allowing the user to take the action directly within the notification greatly increases the percentage of users fulfilling the desired action.
