Often applications have multiple groupings needed for notifications. We are expanding beyond Categories with an additional attribute: Topics.
An example is Instagram notifications. One notification and category they would use is 'Likes' - someone liked a photo you posted. They would like to have an additional tag on each post though, and label each photo. That way they can easily pull how many likes and notifications were sent for each photo posted. The Topic would be the picture ID.
